Mary Diamond
Mary Diamond
Mary Diamond fashions art quilts, wearable art and soft sculpture. She has experimented with natural arts and crafts since childhood and her work continues to be inspired by nature and its limitless textures and palette as found in her beloved Finger Lakes of
upstate New York. Through her exploration of materials, the teaching of fiber art workshops, and exhibition in fiber art venues nationally and internationally, Diamond keeps her artistic horizon expanding.
"Although I start the creative process with a particular idea and with a collection of natural objects such as leaves, stones, and shells, the fiber piece will quickly take over," shares Diamond. She enjoys the serendipity of the creative process and claims that it is definitely the fiber art muse who leads her on. Some pieces elicit a thoughtful response from the viewer, yet others, with their sense of whimsy, may fetch a smile.
Presently Diamond is focusing in cloth portraiture, exploring the human identity in relation to its environment. She also enjoys working with African prints, strongly influenced by a half-year residence in Kenya.
