Jeff League
Jeff League
Jeff League is a visual storyteller. His process uses a collection of involved methods to cultivate a distinctive visual composition, built upon layers of expanding and saturated pigments, dreamlike textures, and haunting silhouettes.
Jeff’s work explores the possibilities of photos on canvas. His recent work is in the rare medium of encaustic (bee’s wax and resin, with or without pigment) a medium originally used by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks.

He flames the surface, melting and blending the image and pigments together, infusing the still image with energy. Burnished and polished together, the multiple layers of imagery, intense color and hazy texture reinterpret the symbols of nature and the myths they embody. Drawing inspiration from archetypal imagery with mythical references, he uses crows in many of his pieces, alluding to their role as messengers in Greek mythology.
Today, League’s crows are messengers to the modern audience – telling us – warning us about what we are doing to the environment. He keeps the imagery simple with abstract color painting or ancient maps in the background and archetypal imagery in the forefront.
Jeff lives and works in Winter Park, Florida.
