Geri Geremia

For years I have loved and enjoyed painting floral watercolors.  Over time, however, my interest turned to painting abstracts.  The creative possibilities are never ending.

Working with acrylics, I developed a style that incorporated various multilevel textural effects with a non-objective abstract approach.  Most recently my love of reflective surfaces has been my latest inspiration.  Still using acrylics, I have now fused metal leaf as part of the overall design.

I expect to keep learning and growing as an artist and surprising the viewer with something new, unusual and fresh.

Her Story

Geri’s education in the arts began at the School of Art and Design in Manhattan, NY.  Over the years she broadened her knowledge and experience with famed watercolorist Mario Cooper at the Art Students League in Manhattan, NY, Charles Reid at Silvermine Guild in Silvermine CT, as well as, workshops with Frank Webb, Carol Barnes, and Edgar Whitney.  Her interests moved on from watercolor realism to abstract acrylics. She continues to study the abstract works of  Louis Cadillac, Carrie Burns Brown, Pat Dews, and Virginia Cobb.

Exhibitions
Geri earns her living as a professional touring artist. Over the course of more than twenty five years, her work has been seen at such prestigious juried festivals as The Longs Park Art and Craft Festival, Lancaster, PA, Outdoor Arts Festival of The Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT., Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Festival , Philadelphia, Pa. and the Washington Square Art Exhibit, Manhattan, NY… to name a few.

Her work has been on display at various galleries, such as Gallery North, Northport, NY, Heckscher Museum, Huntington, NY, Christopher Galleries, Setauket, NY, The Tappan Z Gallery, Tarrytown , NY.

The Work
Her approach to each painting begins with layering imported hand dyed papers on canvas or illustration board and watercolor paper to create texture. Heavy layers of acrylic paint, found objects, gold leaf, text and pencil/pastel are then applied to build a spontaneous and architectural abstract design.

Geri has earned many awards for her work in both watercolor and acrylics throughout her career. Some were: Gold medal at the Santa Fe Community Arts Festival, Gainesville, FL, Gold Medal at the National Art League, NY, Best of Show Marco Island Art Show, Marco Island, FL, Best of Show Fairhope Arts Festival, Fairhope, AL.
