Claudia Pflueger is an accomplished Fine Artist, schooled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago in graphic and fine art. She presently resides in Warwick, New York, where she has her home studio and gallery.
Statement
Gourds, having been born of the earth, are a natural canvas, each in its own way, unique. It is that uniqueness that inspires me to create each of my works of art. My gourds are all naturally grown, and individually handcrafted. All of the images are permanently burned on to the gourds using pyography techniques. Many of the pieces are ornately carved and adorned in semi precious stones, carved jades, hand blown glass, as well as bone and imported woods; while others may be embellished with pine needle coiling or peacock feathers. The brilliant color is created by custom mixing all of my own dyes and pigments. My goal is to compliment the gourd's natural flowing lines, enhancing its subtle blemishes, creating a piece that speaks to the very nature around it.
Each piece is truly a work of art, and no two pieces are exactly alike.
