Cassandra Sohn
Cassandra Sohn
Cassandra Sohn was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Sohn began experimenting with art at a young age, immersing herself in many mediums including drawing, painting and sculpture. In her teens, she started playing with cameras, and discovered an immense passion for photography in her early twenties.
Sohn has spent a great deal of time traveling the world, and currently calls the Berkshires in Massachusetts her home. Her travels and background in the arts play an enormous role in her photographic process. These explorations help her open many doors to
awareness, compassion and community.
In her fine art work, Sohn presents a query between what we actually see, and how our internal environments influence how we perceive things. Abstract landscapes, movement and blur contribute to the question of what object, identity and place truly are. Sohn captures the way we can see moments in our own life - not entirely clear, and often with our past and future attached to our perception. She chooses not to manipulate her photographs, and shows the images as they were originally shot.
Sohn graduated from the New School in Manhattan with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Photography. She was the main contributing photographer in the book, Window On The Park - New York's Most Prestigious Properties On Central Park, published by Images Publishing. Exhibitions with galleries in 2009 included Tappan Z Gallery in Tarrytown, NY, the Ferrin Gallery in Pittsfield, MA, Canyon Ranch and Karendipity Gallery in Lenox, MA, and Dream Studios and Gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan.
Sohn also photographs for magazines and a variety of clientele. She teaches photography at IS183 Art School in Stockbridge, MA, and Berkshire Community College in Great Barrington, MA. Her new company, "Berkshire Photography Workshops" launches in 2010. It will feature local and national photographic workshops at intriguing locations.
